- *** Repack 2.0 by Mat Bettinson of the Plot Hatching Factory '95 ***
-
- What is Repack?
-
- Repack is quite simple. All it does is to extract every LHA file in the
- specified dir and repack with JFs LZX which is substantially better. It then
- deletes the original LHA archive when the LZX archiving is finished.
-
- Usage:
-
- [rx] Repack <Dir> [FORCELZX]
-
- Simple eh? That's assuming that you have slung Repack.rexx in REXX: and have
- LHA and LZX in your path of course.
-
- You MUST edit the rexx script and change the temp dir!!
-
- This dir should have PLENTY of space in it and be completely empty because
- the script will delete anything in the dir in order to function.
-
- It's generally a good idea to have the temp drawer on another drive other
- than the parition that you are repacking on. Why? Because it will lower disk
- thrashing and because for a reasonable drawer full of LHA archives, Repack
- can take quite some time indeed depending on the speed of your machine...
-
- Note that you can speed it up some by lowing the mode setting which is right
- next to the temp dir setting in the header of the script. Even on 1, it will
- still be better than LHA and considerably faster.
-
- It took 8 hours to repack all my BBS files on a 25Mhz '030. Some 400MB or
- so.... I saved 35MB of HD space.
-
- As of 2.0:
-
- The header of the script has setting for Priority.
-
- File notes are copied to the new archive.
-
- By default Repack wont keep a converted LZX archive that's larger than the
- LHA archive. This is normally just small files. You can override this
- behavior with the FORCELZX switch after the dir path.
-
- OK that's it. Have fun and enjoy the extra drive space. I know I am!
